Honoring a veteran
Here is a picture of my Grandpa in the Phillipines Is. My Grandpa is in the back row, with a hat and shirt on, and it looks like he has his arm around a buddy. He is not wearing a grass skirt nor does he have his hand on the thigh of one of the guys who is wearing a grass skirt. I'm just playing, it wouldn't matter if he was. I like this picture because it shows the comraderie of the guys. I do not remember my Grandpa and this picture and the stories about him that I hear from families and old friends make me aware that I missed out. Here is a veteran that I think about and admire. I have read the maps that he wrote notes about the war and plotted their course on and I wonder about all of these guys. I wonder what has happened since then? Do they remember my Grandpa? What was he like when he was young (I totally don't trust Grandma's account)? Anyways, thanks to all veterans on November 11 and everyday.
